Cinema is such a fascinating means to express thoughts and actions, regardless of the degree of complexity it requires to be understood. I feel like a movie, much like a book, has that unique power to draw you into a parallel world and, in a few occasions, make you never want to leave. Throughout the years, I therefore started collecting some movies which have managed to capture my attention even (and especially) after watching them multiple times, and have yet to let me go ever since. That is how I personally know I am watching a good movie.
When looking for a movie to watch, I usually try to go by these rules:
1. Don't choose a movie just because you liked one similar to it (I have never been a fan of a specific category probably because I have always found it quite restraining to confine myself to just one genre, given that so many movies that I loved belong to more than one).
2. Don't choose a movie simply because it is (or was) a blockbuster (this is another restriction which I generally tend to avoid since I have often found some true hidden gems while looking for major successes).
3. Don't watch a trailer; watch the first twenty minutes or so of the actual movie (I have started doing this in the last few years because very often trailers tend to give away much more than what is needed to have a general knowledge of the plot; I also prefer to actually watch the movie because, in the first half an hour, you will be able to tell whether the pace of the production and the themes are your thing or not. If you don't like it by then, chances are you never truly will).
This list, like all of my 'Favorites' ones, gets updated constantly, so look out for more every now and then.
